What Is an RV Garage Home?

An RV garage home is a custom-built house with an oversized garage integrated directly into the floor plan. The garage is part of the home's architecture, sharing the roofline, foundation, and exterior finishes. It's not an add-on or an afterthought. The home and the garage are designed together from day one.

In Lake Havasu City, RV garage homes are built to store Class A motorhomes (up to 45 feet long and 13+ feet tall), boats on trailers, fifth wheels, side-by-sides, and other large vehicles. Door openings typically run 14 to 16 feet high and 14+ feet wide. The foundation is reinforced for heavy vehicle weight, and electrical systems include RV hookups for charging and pre-trip preparation.

River Ridge Builders designs every RV garage home around your specific vehicles. Not a standard plan. Your rig, your layout, your home.

Should I Build an RV Garage Home or Add a Garage to My Existing House?

If you're building new, integrating the RV garage into the home is almost always the better option. The garage shares the foundation, roof structure, and utilities with the house. It looks like it belongs because it does. The driveway approach, turning radius, and door placement are all designed into the site plan from the start.

Adding an oversized garage to an existing home is possible, but it comes with limitations. Setback requirements may restrict where you can place the structure. The roofline and exterior materials have to be matched to the existing house, which adds cost and complexity. And the foundation has to be engineered separately for the heavy loads.

For Lake Havasu homeowners building from scratch, an integrated RV garage home gives you the most cohesive result at the best value. For those who already have a home and need storage, a Freestanding RV Garage is the alternative.

How Do You Design an RV Garage Into a Custom Home?

It starts with your vehicles. We measure your largest rig and work backward. Door height, door width, bay depth, ceiling clearance, turning radius from the street to the garage opening. All of that gets locked in before we touch the rest of the floor plan.

The garage bay is then integrated into the home's architecture. On a single-story home, the RV garage typically sits on one end with the living areas on the other, connected by a breezeway or utility corridor. On multi-level designs, the garage can sit below the main living floor.

Structural engineering is different from a standard garage. High-clearance trusses span the wider bay without interior columns. The foundation slab is thicker and reinforced for vehicles that weigh 15,000 to 30,000 pounds. Garage doors use commercial-grade openers rated for daily use on 14 to 16 foot openings.

We also plan the electrical system for RV hookups, battery charging, air compressors, and shop lighting. Most of our clients want the garage to function as a working space, not just storage.

How Much Does an RV Garage Home Cost in Lake Havasu City?

An RV garage home costs more than a standard custom home of the same living square footage. The oversized garage bay adds foundation engineering, high-clearance roof trusses, commercial-grade doors and openers, reinforced concrete, and additional electrical systems. That's real structural work, not just a bigger room.

The total cost depends on the size of the living space, the size and number of garage bays, the level of finishes, and whether you're adding custom features like climate control. Lot conditions also factor in. A flat lot with good access costs less to build on than a hillside site where the driveway approach needs extra engineering.

We break every cost down in a detailed, line-item quote. Foundation, framing, garage-specific structural work, and finishes are all separated so you can see exactly where your money goes. No bundled allowances that hide overruns.

Why Hire River Ridge Builders for an RV Garage Home?

Most builders can frame a standard two-car garage. An RV garage home is a different animal. The structural engineering, the door systems, the foundation loads, the driveway geometry. Getting any of it wrong means your $200,000 motorhome doesn't fit, or worse, the garage door doesn't clear the AC unit on the roof.

We've been building RV garage homes in Lake Havasu City for over 30 years. We build in communities like The Refuge, The Riviera, and North Pointe where oversized garages are expected. Licensed with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC #B-151956), BBB A+ Accredited, and every home backed by a 1-year cosmetic and 2-year structural warranty.

Same-day lot evaluations. Upfront pricing. One point of contact from vehicle measurements to key handoff.
